Another summer is about to fly by. Are you ready to actually remember it?
I know that feeling all too well. For years I let summers fade into a blur of video games late nights and lazy habits. Each September I’d wonder where the time went. The days were long but the season felt short and empty. It was a symptom of a bigger problem. I was letting my life just happen to me instead of truly living it.
When I started my journey of turning things around I discovered something simple yet powerful. Paying attention. The simple act of noticing the good things the small moments and the quiet blessings changed everything. A journal became my most important tool not to write essays but to capture life as it happened.
Why Bother Journaling This Summer?
Journaling isn't about creating a perfect record of your life. Forget the pressure to write beautiful paragraphs or have profound thoughts every day. Think of it as a net. You’re using it to catch the little moments that would otherwise float away.
It’s a way to see God’s hand in your daily life. It’s a way to track your own growth. And honestly it’s a way to prove to yourself that your days are full of meaning even when they feel ordinary. It shifts your focus from what’s going wrong to what’s going right.
So let’s ditch the “Dear Diary” pressure and explore some creative ways to make this summer unforgettable.

Make It Your Own
You don’t need a fancy leather-bound journal. A simple spiral notebook from the grocery store works just fine. The best journal is the one you actually use.
Don’t aim for perfection. My first journals are messy. Some days I wrote a lot. Some days I just wrote “Drank enough water today. Small win.” Both entries were valuable. A messy journal full of life is better than a perfect empty one.
Consistency is more important than quantity. Five minutes a day is better than one hour a month. Tie it to a habit you already have like your morning coffee or right before you go to bed. Start small. Really small.
This is your space. Be honest. Be real. Be you.
So here’s my challenge to you: What is one small thing from today you can write down? Just one. A beautiful cloud a good song a moment of peace.
Start there. What will you capture this summer?
